All our courses are updated to include the latest changes / proposed changes announced in the Coalition's Emergency Budget and Spending Review. Courses can be run at a basic or more experienced level and usually last one day.

This 2 day course is aimed at workers whose role is to support clients back into work. The course starts at a basic level explaining the essential structure of the Benefits System. It then progresses to explain how work affects in and out of work Benefits and the issues involved.

This course will include—

  • the structure of the Benefits System
  • the qualifying conditions for the main benefits including Income Support, Housing and Council Tax Benefit, Working Tax Credits, Job Seekers Allowance, Employment and Support Allowance
  • how the means tested process works, including earnings disregards
  • tax credits- calculations and childcare costs
  • the Employment and Support Allowance system and the migration process
  • the effect of work on Benefits- voluntary work, permitted work, part time work, full time work
  • linking rules for ESA and Incapacity Benefit
  • help available to get into work
  • additional considerations when viewing whether a client will be better off in work
  • better off calculations
  • losing work- out of work Benefits and the effect of payments from previous employment
  • future changes- what's in the pipeline including Universal Credit and Personal Independence Payments

duration— 2 days

Course accreditation- the Solicitors Regulation Authority has authorised us to award 5.25 hours Continuing Professional Development(CPD) points for solicitors attending this course. Our allocated CPD reference is EJV/SWTL.

In-house Course Cancellation-   If we cancel the course, then a full refund will be paid(excluding other costs, such as travel).  No refund will be payable if you cancel the course within one month of the commencement date.  We will try to set a mutually convenient new date for the training and additional costs for travel/  accomodation,  if pre booked,  may be chargeable.
