The government made £billions of cuts to Housing Benefit (which has been passed into Universal Credit housing costs), over the years after 2010.

Discretionary Housing Payments try to mitigate some impact of the cuts.  The government has announced that the overall DHP funding for England and Wales in 2019-20 will be £139.5 million. Click on the link to see your council.

'...English and Welsh LAs are able to top up their DHP funding up to a maximum of two and a half times this figure using their own funds.'

The DHP government funding contribution comprises of funding for four separate areas of support:

● core funding
● Local Housing Allowance (LHA)
● Removal of the Spare Room Subsidy (RSRS)
● benefit cap
