We don't have much detail on the government plans for Benefits at present.
Certainly, a large scale reversal of cuts is not planned. It's mostly more of the same. In their manifesto they said-
● ' older people- keep the triple lock on the state pension
● keep the winter fuel payment
● keep the older person's bus pass
● Proceed with the planned charge for tv licences for those over 75
● working age people- end the benefit freeze
● continue its efforts to reduce poverty, including child poverty
● ensure those who cheat the system by committing benefit fraud are punished
● support the main carer in any household receiving the universal credit payment
● reduce the number of reassessments a disabled person must go through
when a significant change in condition is unlikely.
In the Queens Speech before Christmas the government announced-
● A green paper- ''We will publish a National Strategy for Disabled People in 2020 to ensure disabled people can lead a life of opportunity and fulfilment. Our strategy will be ambitious, supporting disabled people in all
aspects and phases of their life.’'
● For PIP 'a minimum award length' and 'We will ensure no one will be reassessed for at least 18 months from their last review, unless they tell us their needs have changed.'
