Following a claim, once an individual has signed their commitment agreement and had their identity verified among other criteria, clients are deemed to have started on Universal Credit.
The latest Universal Credit statistics(to January 2020) tell us that-
Numbers on UC- In January 2.8 million people, up 100,000 (2%) from 12 December 2019, were on UC.
- Work- of these only 1/3 were doing some kind of paid work.
- Claims of UC- The number of claims made in the 4 weeks up to 9 January 2020 was 160,000. Not everybody that makes a claim will go on to receive Universal Credit.
- Vulnerability- more vulnerable people are moving onto the system. ’Searching for work’ conditionality (1.0 million; 37%) is the largest conditionality regime and this is decreasing as a proportion of the overall caseload. ‘no work requirements’ conditionality (700,000; 25%) is increasing at the fastest rate.
- Claimants with children- A growing proportion of Universal Credit claims in payment are made to households with children. These households make up 46% of payment awards in November 2019, compared with 40% in November 2018.
- Payment on time- Households receiving full payment on time has increased over the last year(by around 10%). In October 2019, 95% of.households received their full payment on time. Around 87% get their full payment.
