It can sometimes be difficult for a representative to advocate with the DWP on behalf of a client on Universal Credit.

Explicit consent is where a client authorizes a representative to do so and allows that to happen when the client isn't present. Guidance, which could change in the future, suggests the following should be recorded and supplied by the client by phone or online, to allow explicit consent on behalf of a client-

how long the explicit consent will last (up to a maximum of six months , this can be renewed). is the third party is a friend, family or an organisation (and name);
the name of the representative (this could change from from one contact to another);
what information can be shared and why
