Rachel Reeves, the Chancellor of the Exchequer,
has stated the government's intention for this Winter of moving the status of

Winter Fuel Payments from a Universal Beneft to a means tested one. Worth either £500 or £600 per household during the last 2 Winters due to the cost of living crisis, she stated-

'The Government will continue to provide winter fuel payments worth £200 to households receiving pension credit or £300 to households in receipt of pension credit with someone over the age of 80.'

The payment will also be available for pensioners who are receiving universal credit, income support, income-based jobseeker’s allowance or income-related employment and support allowance.

Remember nearly a million pensioners are estimated not to claim Pension Credit to which they are entitled. This could be a good opportunity to run a take up campaign to encourage claims for Pension Credit and keep the Winter Fuel Payment.

Note receipt of Pension Credit also passports claimant to a free tv licence, .if age over 75.
