MND and benefits - client going down hill - Mon, 02/09/2024 - 17:55

I have 30 yr old who has a Muscular Dystrophy diagnosis.  Up until now he has been able to lead a relatively normal life and has been in employment.  He has started to not be able to hold down positions as a result of his condition and despite actively seeking employment, he is struggling to get past the application process and if he does secure a role, they are quite short lived and he is let go quite quickly.

He currently does not claim any benefits, but is struggling financially and I am trying to support him and ensure he makes the right applications.

My instinct tells me he is not yet in a category to be successful PIP claim but think he should be applying for New style ESA  (with an aim of getting into the Support Group) and Universal Credit.  Does he have to make independent claims for both?
