The government has supplied statistics that show the manner in which Work Capability Assessments(WCAs) are carried out. These assessments help decide if a client has Limited Capability for Work for Employment and Support Allowance(ESA) and Universal Credit(UC).

Pre Pandemic, most were face to face. During the pandemic, this changed and has remained the same.

This can have implications in terms of advice and how best to present your client's case.

Most assessments are by telephone(67% most recently, October 2022- 52,960 assessments carried out).

Face to face are in only 15% of cases and a paper based approach was taken in 12% of cases. Video is also an option(7% of cases). During the last year, most figures have remained at very similar levels.
