Getting the rent paid.

The Housing Cost Element of Universal Credit allows support to be paid for rent or mortgage housing costs.  This course examines how costs are paid and calculated under the new Universal Credit system being rolled out nationally from October 2013.  There will be a chance to discuss with other participants the implications for your service.

This course will include details on-

  • the timetable for the introduction of Universal Credit(and briefly, the basics)
  • how renters and clients with mortgages will have housing costs met
  • how shared owners will have housing costs met
  • restrictions on housing costs-  service charges payable,  non dependants,  the Benefit Cap, size criteria, high cost criteria
  • assessment periods, and effect on monthly payments of changes of circumstances
  • alternative payment arrangements including payments to landlords
  • backdating
  • absence from home and overlapping housing costs, notice periods
  • the Benefit Cap under Universal Credit
  • mortgage housing costs under Universal Credit(briefly)
  • changes to Universal Credit over the last 3 years,  including the Autumn budget 2017 and 2018,  2 week HB run on at the start of a claim
  • at a glance guide between the Universal Credit Housing Costs System and the Housing Benefit/  Mortgage Interest System 
  • a chance to discuss with other participants implications for your service

duration— online 1 day (spread over 2 consecutive days 10am- 1pm with a break)

Course Level- Update (for delegates with or without prior knowledge of the subject)

Course accreditation- the Solicitors Regulation Authority has authorised us to award 5.25 hours Continuing Professional Development(CPD) points for solicitors attending this course. Our allocated CPD reference is EJV/SWTL.

Cancellation

If you cancel the course more than 3 weeks before the commencement date, then a £55 administration fee will be payable. The course fee will remain payable if you cancel the course within 3 weeks of the commencement date. If we cancel the course, then full refunds will be paid to participants (excluding other costs, such as travel).

Transfers

You are free to transfer places between employees within your organisation at no extra cost.
