It is a very useful course that sits well with two other courses-
Benefits for Carers and
Benefits for Older People(including Pension Credit and Attendance Allowance)
The course covers:
- for disabled claimants- the law around claiming as 'sick', claiming PIP- these are the two most common subjects of Benefits Appeals
- what are the barriers to claiming benefits for people with mental health conditions
- a chance to exchange tactics with other participants
using casestudies to-
- identify and signpost to the correct benefits
- be aware of common diagnoses, symptoms, medication and side-effects
- understand the Work Capability Assessment test for Employment and Support Allowance and Universal Credit, including substantial risk
- understand the disability tests for Personal Independence Payment
- understand the severe disability premium and changes under Universal Credit- who is worse off
- identify legal provisions in the Benefits system which are to the advantage of this client group
